Pefect Days in Riviera Maya | El Cid Resorts

Have a perfect vacation on the white sandy beaches in the Riviera Maya, we created this trip itinerary designed to create an unforgettable experience for you.

Our origins began in Mazatlán almost 50 years ago becoming a leading pioneer within the industry for tourists who prefer this beautiful coast in Mexico. Our corporate headquarters remain based in Mazatlán.

If great weather and great food are something that you are looking for, Mazatlán is your spot; our four resorts in Mazatlán will most definitely deliver.
Take your pick from El Cid Granada Hotel & Country Club complete with its golf course or choose our beachfront juggernaut resort in the middle of the golden zone with a lively nightlife with El Moro Beach Hotel. Or perhaps you are more interested in El Cid Marina Beach Resort and Yacht Club, with stunning marina views that can be appreciated from the comfort of your room. For those looking for a little more privacy, El Cid Marina is always a favorite with more than 15 years of recognition.

If you happen to go a little more south into Mexico and find yourself traveling to the Riviera Maya you must experience one of our three resorts located in Puerto Morelos, a private and small town between Cancun and Playa del Carmen.
Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort is our first property ever opened outside of Mazatlán more than 15 years ago. Located in the almost-private and quiet beach of Puerto Morelos, the beachfront hotel sits in front of one of the biggest and closest coral reefs in Mexico, allowing for spectacular snorkeling and scuba diving.
The location of the coral reef helps break the waves creating a beautiful pool-like Caribbean beach that will have you enjoying the soothing breeze, cocktail in hand getting the most, and enjoying your stay.

5 Local Dishes You Have to Try

Aguachile: The Spicy King of the Coast

Have you ever tasted something that instantly wakes up all your senses? That’s aguachile. Raw shrimp “cooked” in fresh lime juice, blended with serrano chilies, red onion, and crisp cucumber. It’s spicy, bright, and incredibly refreshing — basically made for hot beach days. One bite, and you’ll know why it’s a coastal favorite. Pro tip: the spicier, the better.

Tacos Gobernador: The Taco That Put Mazatlán on the Map

This isn’t just a taco — it’s a story, a legend. Born in Mazatlán, the Taco Gobernador is packed with sautéed shrimp, melty cheese, peppers, and onions, all wrapped in a warm corn tortilla. It’s juicy, cheesy, slightly smoky, and absolutely unforgettable. If you're by the ocean and you don’t try one of these… did you even go?

Chilorio: Bold, Slow-Cooked, and Full of Heart

Chilorio is comfort food with a kick. Shredded pork, slow-cooked in a rich chili sauce made with dried peppers, spices, and just a touch of vinegar. It’s savory, slightly tangy, and made to be tucked into tacos, burritos, or even eaten straight with a fork. Originally from Sinaloa, but honestly, it tastes like home no matter where you are.

Zarandeado Fish: Smoky, Juicy, and Full of Tradition

This is more than just grilled fish — it’s a ritual. A whole fish, marinated in spices, butterflied, and grilled over open flames until perfectly smoky and tender. Pescado zarandeado captures the essence of coastal cooking: bold, rustic, and always made with love (and fire). Follow the smell of smoke, and you’ll probably find a grill sizzling with this masterpiece.

Shrimp or Sierra Ceviche: Citrus, Crunch, and Pure Coastal Vibes

If the beach had a flavor, this would be it. Ceviche — made with either shrimp or fresh sierra — is marinated in lime juice and mixed with chopped tomato, onion, cucumber, cilantro, and just the right touch of chili. It’s zesty, crunchy, light, and best served on a tostada with an ice-cold beer in hand. Summer in a bite.

From the first bite to the last, dining in Mazatlán is about more than just food—it’s about experiencing the heart of the city. At El Cid Resorts, we celebrate that spirit through every dish we serve.
You’ll find these local specialties at select restaurants like La Concha Restaurant and La Alhambra Restaurant, where our chefs highlight the city’s most iconic flavors using fresh, regional ingredients.

Mexican history and bread have a very close relationship, it even transcends the culinary sphere and is part of the culture itself. This almost perfect combination has occurred through centuries, advancing along with Mexican society.

THE ORIGIN
Bread in the Mexican diet is linked to the Spanish conquest. It was the Europeans who brought the processes of transforming wheat into bread, the beginning of the bakery industry dates back to 1524.
During the conquest, the ovens of Spanish or Creole families, little by little they were becoming production companies for the consumption of the general population.
The pieces of bread that were sold en masse were found in the grocery stores, squares, and markets; At the end of the 18th century, the first European bakery and pastry masters arrived in México, mainly from France and Italy, with this establishing the first bakeries or family bread workshops, where the head of the family is the teacher and his children the wards.
Starting in the 1940s, the history of bread in México was linked to the employer organizations that emerged during the process of institutionalization of the economic, social, and political life of the country.

OUR MOST POPULAR BREAD:
Today, “Conchita” is the darling of Mexican pastries, and probably one of the most colorful pieces of bread in the world.
It is a semi-sphere-shaped bread, which has, on its entire surface, icing sugar frosting and butter that can be white or chocolate-colored.
On this layer of frosting, grooves are marked, with a special apparatus, which appears as of the lines of the seashells. A noun derived from the Greek kónkhee: shell.
Although Conchitas are traditionally vanilla or chocolate, their recent fame has led restaurants and chefs to experiment with ingredients to give them unique flavors and colors.
In recent years in the United States, la Conchita has gone from being one of the pastries available in bakeries in Mexican neighborhoods to being present in trendy restaurants and cafes.
On this blog, we bring you our Chef’s Luis Pazos best recipe to prepare Conchitas.

“CONCHITAS”
Ingredients (14-15 UNITS):
Mass for “Conchitas” (DOUGH)

250 g of bread flour

250 g of bakery flour

290 g of water

25 g of sugar

10 g of salt

25 g of powdered milk

3 g of freeze-dried baker’s yeast (9 g of fresh yeast)

50 g of softened butter

Sugar crust

150 g of pastry flour

150 g of icing sugar

150 g butter, softened

2 drops of vanilla extract

1 g of cocoa powder

ELABORATION:
Dough for “Conchitas”

Weigh the ingredients on the scale and mix the baker’s flour and bread flour with the water, salt, powdered milk, and baker’s yeast in a bowl.

We reserve the sugar and butter.

Knead in one-minute intervals, separated by 10-minute rest, until the dough begins to be thinner and more elastic (3-4 times).

Add sugar and soft butter and continue the kneading-resting cycles until the dough is fine and smooth.

Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it, and let it ferment until double the volume.

Sugar crust

Mix the pastry flour with the icing sugar and butter until obtaining a homogeneous dough.

Wrap both in plastic while the dough has just fermented.

Formed from the shells

When the dough has fermented, degas by flattening it with your hand on the table.

Divide into 60 g portions and form balls with them, which we will place on a baking sheet.

To apply the sugar crust, we take portions of about 25-30 g, which we form between our hands in the shape of a pancake almost the diameter of the dough balls.

Add some water, so that the coverage sticks well, apply and squash the ball with the palm of your hand so that it adheres perfectly.

Once all the conchitas are formed, use a sharp knife to make the drawing that we want.

Cover with plastic and leave to ferment until very fluffy.

Heat the oven to 180ºC and bake conchitas when they are very inflated, that they feel very soft when you touch the side with a finger, about 8-10 minutes until they are lightly browned.

Remove las Conchitas from the oven and transfer them to a rack to cool.

It's a traditional mexican celebration to commemorate the path from life to death in which families gather to greet the souls of their departed loved ones.
The Day of the Dead was declared in 2003 as a Patrimony of Humanity by the UNESCO. During the first and second days of November we honor our dead, the first day we celebrate the visit of the little ones and the second day is for adults. This will vary in each state of the country. If you visit some of our three beach destinations in México, either Mazatlán, the Riviera Maya or Cozumel, you will probably find some differences in the way we celebrate the Day of the Dead.

In México death is celebrated, feared and respected, we laugh of it and with it, with this tradition death doesn't represent absence, instead we celebrate life and the vitality while honoring our departed loved ones, therefore changing the perspective of the day when we have to leave the mortal world. Families honor their dead and welcome their souls with the elaboration of altars decorated with offerings, colorful details, and the favorite mexican dishes of the deceased.

Every year we elaborate an altar of the dead to honor the souls of the departed, distinguished by the orange colors of the cempasúchil flower, symbol of life and death, exactly what this beautiful tradition represents. Our ancestors associated the yellow color of this flower with the sun, which is why it is used to create a path that illuminates and guides the souls of the dead to their altars.
One of Day of the Dead activities at El Cid Resorts in Mazatlán is the candle lighting of the altar, an activity that our guests are invited to enjoy and a must-do!
We also offer activities for the little ones at our Kids Club where they can dress up as "catrines" and "catrinas", as well as write "calaveritas" poems, a fun activity that soaks them in culture and encourages their creativity.

Things to do in the Riviera Maya

The wonderful thing about the Riviera Maya is that it has so many beautiful spots and towns you can visit, and they will all blow you away.

Places to visit

Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos, in Quintana Roo, is a place that preserves the essence of a small fishing village in the Caribbean. It’s one of the most emblematic destinations in the Riviera Maya, where tradition is combined with adventure and nature to discover a secret world of wonderful attractions such as mangroves, cenotes, and an exuberant jungle.
This destination is the main port in the state of Quintana Roo, located on the Riviera Maya coastline, between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, and it’s known for its tranquil beaches and Bohemian atmosphere.

Our two resorts, Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort and Ventus at Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort are located right on the beach of Puerto Morelos, overlooking the Caribbean Ocean and offering you the most beautiful views you can imagine.
There is much to do here: enjoy the sea breeze walking along the boardwalk in front of the main square, where you can see the pier and the leaning lighthouse, an icon of Puerto Morelos.
You can walk or take a cab and enjoy all the wonders that Puerto Morelos has to offer, or you can book our tours and get familiar with the town while exploring all of its hidden gems, like the Puerto Morelos Reef National Park, a must-see in your trip.

Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen is considered the “heart” of the Riviera Maya, seducing locals and foreign travelers with its 120 kilometers (75 mi) of shoreline and the most beautiful shades of blue on its beaches. The cenotes and theme parks nestled in the enigmatic jungle of Playa del Carmen give you the impression of being on another planet, while its famous Fifth Avenue has this cosmopolitan vibe and party atmosphere that attracts thousands of visitors each year.
The days in Playa del Carmen seem endless. Mornings are ideal to sunbathe and swim in the turquoise-blue waters. At sunset, downtown restaurants offer you a culinary experience that ranges from traditional Mayan cuisine to international fare. Afterward, you can walk down Fifth Avenue, well-known for its boutiques, handicraft stores, and bars. Parque Fundidores is a short walk away and features concerts and folkloric shows on its stage.

If what you’re looking for is to connect with nature, booking a tour is what we suggest. Imagine exploring the Cobá archeological site, or walking through an underground cavern to see a glass museum of formations that tell the geological history of our planet. What a life-changing experience!
Playa del Carmen is located 76 kilometers (47 mi) from Cancún. You can travel, by land or ferry, from Playa del Carmen to other wonderful places, such as Tulum, Cozumel, and Isla Mujeres.

Tulum

Tulum is one of the most famous spots in the Mexican Caribbean, and no wonder why! Its ten kilometers (6 mi) of white-sand beaches and turquoise waters offer you a breathtaking view, and the simplicity of the locals and their friendliness will warm your heart. It was, after all, worthy of the “Pueblo Mágico” (Magical Town) designation.
There are only a few places where nature is present in all its magnificence, and Tulum is one of them. Crystal-clear lagoons, beautiful cenotes (deep natural wells or sinkholes), and a beachfront Mayan archaeological site once used as an astrological and trading center make Tulum the Caribbean Jewel.
Tulum’s eco-chic atmosphere will make you feel in true connection with nature, which is perfect for walking downtown, which is located a mere four kilometers (2.5 mi) away from the coastline. For a casual afternoon drink, bars are at your service, and if you like mezcal, Gitano is a good option. You can also find small art galleries and hip-chic clothing stores and craft shops at every corner.

Isla Mujeres

A 20-minute ferry ride from Cancún will get you to Isla Mujeres, one of the Magical Towns in Quintana Roo, along with Puerto Morelos.
This little island is only seven kilometers (4.3 mi) long, but size doesn’t matter when you’re the first place in Mexico to be touched by the Sun every morning. Its ecosystem is so surprising that every year, from May to September, Isla Mujeres becomes the host of the whale sharks, the largest fish in the world. You can book one of our tours and sail through the Caribbean to truly admire the beauty of this island.
One of the advantages of being small is that you can become familiar with Isla Mujeres in just a couple of hours, whether it is walking, riding a bike, or one of the famous golf carts. They can take you to Punta Norte, where Garrafón is, a Natural Reef Park where you can get an all-inclusive ticket that allows you to stay in the pools, have a buffet, go into the zip-line, and more.

Holbox

One of the Riviera Maya’s must-see is the island of Holbox, an oasis of peace and beauty.
This island is located northeast of Yucatán’s peninsula, at Quintana Roo State. You have to navigate to the island starting at the Chiquila port. You can go up into a shared or individual boat at this location that will help you cross the Yalahau lagoon. This takes 20 minutes approximately.
If you come by car, this place is one hour and 45 minutes from Playa del Carmen, two hours from Cancún, and two hours and a half from Tulum.
Spring at Holbox is hot and sunny, so make sure you pack your sunscreen and stay in the shade.
Holbox has a 40-kilometer extension, so you won’t need a car to move around and because the island is not paved. But don’t worry, if you get tired or have too many margaritas, you can call a “taxi”, golf carts that can fit up to four people and will get you anywhere you want.
Gastronomy on the island is so mind-blowing, since all you get is fresh products right out of the ocean, like lobster, which is famous in every form of preparation.

Last-minute getaway in México | El Cid Resorts

Turquoise Caribbean waters, lush jungle, cenotes, local flavors, and centuries of history make Riviera Maya a destination with plenty to experience together. Whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or simply more time to enjoy each other’s company, there are countless ways to make a couples’ getaway special.
From discovering the natural beauty of Puerto Morelos to slowing down at an all-inclusive resort, here are six experiences to add to your next trip to Riviera Maya.

1. Explore the Cenotes Together

Beyond the coastline, the Riviera Maya reveals a completely different landscape. Near Puerto Morelos, the Ruta de los Cenotes takes you into the jungle, where freshwater cenotes, caves, and natural surroundings create the perfect setting for a day of exploration.
Swim in crystal-clear waters, go snorkeling, or simply take in the scenery. Exploring a cenote together is an easy way to add nature and adventure to your Caribbean getaway.

2. Discover the Puerto Morelos Reef

Make time to experience the Caribbean from a different perspective.
The waters of Puerto Morelos are home to an impressive reef where couples can snorkel and discover colorful marine life beneath the surface.
It’s a great way to step away from the beach for a few hours, share a new experience, and discover one of the natural attractions that makes Puerto Morelos so special.

3. Spend an Afternoon Exploring Puerto Morelos

Not every experience needs a detailed itinerary.
Take an afternoon to explore Puerto Morelos together and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this coastal town. Walk near the waterfront, discover local spots, stop for something to eat, and simply enjoy a slower pace by the Caribbean.
It’s an easy way to experience more of the destination while leaving plenty of room for spontaneity.

4. Discover New Flavors Together

Food is often one of the best parts of traveling, and Riviera Maya offers plenty of opportunities to make it part of the experience.
Discover Mexican and Caribbean flavors, try fresh seafood, order something new, or plan a special dinner together.
At El Cid Resorts, the experience continues with a variety of dining options across Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort, Ventus at Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort, and Ventus Ha’ at Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort.
Whether it’s a casual meal or an evening planned around dinner and drinks, sharing new flavors is another way to enjoy the destination together.

It takes place on November 1 and 2, representing day 1 in memory of the children who have died and day 2, all those adults who have left this earthly plane.
In this celebration, death does not represent an absence but a living presence; it is a symbol of life that materializes on the altar offered. The Day of the Dead is celebrated throughout México, having some variations depending on the region.

Its origin is located in the harmony between the celebration of Catholic religious rituals brought by the Spanish and the commemoration of the day of the dead that the natives carried out since pre-Hispanic times; The ancient Mexica, Mixteca, Texcocanos, Zapotecs, Tlaxcalans, Totonacs, and other indigenous peoples of our country, transferred the veneration of their dead to the Christian calendar, which coincided with the end of the agricultural cycle of corn, the country’s main food crop.
In this blog, we will share the most significant characteristics of this celebration and our way of celebrating this important holiday year after year to preserve our customs and traditions.

THE ALTAR OF THE DEAD

It is a fundamental element in the set of Mexican traditions of the Day of the Dead, which consists of installing domestic altars in honor of the dead of the family where food, candles, flowers, and objects of daily use of the deceased are placed as an offering.
It represents the union between the old and the new world. It has specific elements that cannot be missing from the Day of the Dead altar, due to its high significant value.

1. White Tablecloth and Salt: The color of the tablecloth and the salt signify purity and joy. The salt serves so that the body of the deceased is not corrupted on the round trip.
2. Water: On the journey of the deceased to our world, water quenches their thirst. In addition, it is an element that symbolizes purity, in which souls can clean themselves.
3. Candles: The candles are the light, faith, and hope. It is the guide for the dead to find their way back to their former home.
4. Copal and Ash Cross: Copal or incense is used to cleanse bad vibes and bad spirits before loved ones return. The ash cross serves for the soul to reach the altar.
5. Calaveritas: The sugar skulls represent human skulls.
6. Papel Picado and Mat: The role is an on-air representation and adds a festive touch to the celebration. The mat is used for the dead to rest and as a tablecloth to place the items on the altar of the dead.
7. Itzcuintli: It is believed that the Itzcuintli is the little dog that helps souls cross the Chiconauhuapan river, the last step to reach Mictlán, the underworld for the Mexica.
8. Flowers: Flowers are a festive symbol for their colors and aromas that will adorn the place where the soul will be. The flower used is that of Cempasúchil, since its color represents the sun that guides the soul of the deceased.
9. Food, drinks, and bread for the dead: Food has the objective of delighting the dead who visit the offering, it is cooked in honor of the remembered beings, so their favorite food is put on the altar for their delight.
10. Portrait: A photograph of the loved one means that they will be the one to visit the offering.

A Mexican Tradition with Deep Roots

Every year on November 1st and 2nd, Mexico honors its departed loved ones with a unique celebration: Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead). This vibrant tradition, filled with symbolism, color, and remembrance, is one of the country’s most meaningful cultural expressions.

Origins of Día de Muertos

Día de Muertos has roots in pre-Hispanic civilizations such as the Mexica and Maya. These cultures believed that death was not the end, but a transition to another realm. With the arrival of the Spanish, this worldview blended with All Saints’ Day, giving birth to the modern celebration.

Essential Elements of the Altar

One of the most important parts of Día de Muertos is the ofrenda or altar. Each item on the altar holds special meaning:

Photographs: To honor the memory of departed loved ones.

Marigold flowers (cempasúchil): Their bright color and scent guide the spirits home.

Candles: Light the way for souls to return.

Pan de muerto: A traditional bread decorated to symbolize bones and tears.

Water and salt: To quench the spirit’s thirst and purify their journey.

Sugar or chocolate skulls: Symbolizing the cycle of life and death.

Altars are symbolic spaces where families connect with their ancestors, not religious shrines.

Skulls and La Catrina

Decorated skulls and La Catrina—inspired by José Guadalupe Posada’s famous artwork—have become icons of Día de Muertos. They reflect a uniquely Mexican way of facing death: with humor, color, and acceptance.

Día de Muertos in Mazatlán: The Callejoneada

In Mazatlán, Sinaloa, the celebration includes a special event called the Callejoneada. This lively nighttime procession through the historic downtown features people dressed as catrinas and skeletons, accompanied by traditional banda music, public altars, and folk art.
The streets come alive with culture, reminding everyone that Día de Muertos is a joyful time of community and remembrance, not sadness.

Día de Muertos Riviera Maya: Hanal Pixán

In Riviera Maya, Día de Muertos is deeply connected to Hanal Pixán, a Maya tradition whose name means “food of the souls.” Families honor their loved ones through altars decorated with flowers, candles, photographs, and traditional foods.
This meaningful celebration brings Maya heritage to life through flavors, rituals, and gatherings, offering visitors a special opportunity to discover how remembrance and tradition remain an important part of the region’s cultural identity.

A Bridge Between Worlds

More than just a tradition, Día de Muertos teaches us that death is not forgetting, but remembering with love. It invites us to cherish memories and keep alive the stories of those who have passed.

"Protecting paradise isn't achieved in a single day. It's built through thousands of everyday actions."

When you arrive at El Cid Resorts, you probably notice the crystal-clear pools, lush tropical gardens, pristine beaches, and welcoming hospitality.
What you may not see is everything happening behind the scenes to help preserve the beauty of Riviera Maya for generations to come.
We're proud to share that El Cid Resorts has earned the EarthCheck Silver Certification 2026 for the third consecutive year—an international recognition that reflects our ongoing commitment to responsible tourism and sustainable operations.
While we're honored by this achievement, what makes us proudest isn't the certificate itself. It's the people, the dedication, and the daily actions that made it possible.

Sustainability Is More Than a Goal; It's How We Operate Every Day

Unlike many environmental recognitions, EarthCheck isn't based on promises or one-time initiatives.
It is an internationally recognized certification program that independently evaluates how tourism businesses manage their environmental, social, and economic impact.
Every year, our performance is measured, audited, benchmarked, and compared against international standards. That means every certification must be earned again, not simply renewed.
This third consecutive Silver Certification confirms that sustainability isn't a project. It's part of who we are. For us, sustainability is a conviction that grows every day.

Thousands of Small Actions Create One Big Impact

There isn't one department responsible for sustainability. Every team contributes.

Our Maintenance team continuously improves water and energy efficiency.

Our housekeeping team carefully manages resources while maintaining impeccable standards.

Our landscaping specialists protect native vegetation and care for the surrounding environment.

Our purchasing team evaluates products with sustainability in mind.

Our food and beverage teams work to reduce waste of food supplies and improve operational efficiency.

Behind every guest experience are hundreds of employees making thoughtful decisions every day, many of which happen without ever being noticed. Together, those decisions create meaningful environmental change.

This Year's Results Tell an Incredible Story

One of the best ways to understand our progress is through measurable results. We achieved one of our most significant environmental improvements yet.
Less Waste Sent to Landfills
In preparation for our 2026 certification, we are evaluating performance from the previous period to reinforce this environmental commitment. Progress is evident in our 2024 results: we achieved a 63.4% reduction in waste sent to landfills compared to 2023, dropping from 4.2 liters per guest night to just 1.5 liters per guest night.
This reduction was made possible through improved waste sorting, recycling programs, process optimization, and more efficient resource management.
This means fewer materials ending up in landfills, more resources being recovered, and a smaller environmental footprint for every stay.
But what does this mean for our guests and the destination?
Various types of waste are generated during a stay. Certain materials resulting from our operations, such as specific plastics, aluminum, cardboard, and glass, can be separated for recovery and recycling. Similarly, organic food waste requires specialized handling to ensure it is utilized effectively.
Proper sorting allows materials to be recovered and entered into the recycling system, thereby decreasing the volume of waste sent to landfills. This also reduces environmental impacts related to air, soil, and water pollution.

Smarter Products, Healthier Spaces

Our commitment to sustainability also extends to the products we use throughout our resorts.
In the 2024 assessment, both our pesticide management and cleaning product management improved from 3-Star to 4-Star ratings under EarthCheck's evaluation.
These improvements reflect our ongoing efforts to choose products that are safer for our guests, our employees, and the ecosystems that surround us, without compromising the quality and comfort our guests expect.
This aspect is particularly important in a destination like the Riviera Maya, where we coexist with ecosystems of great environmental value and where water conservation is a fundamental responsibility.
For this reason, we aim to select products that generate the least possible impact on water resources and the subsoil.
Sometimes sustainability isn't about using more. It's about choosing better.

Our Guests Are Part of This Achievement

One of the things we love most about sustainability is that everyone can participate.
Every guest can contribute to this commitment through simple yet important choices during their stay: using water responsibly, reusing towels whenever possible, properly sorting waste (including food scraps), respecting local flora and fauna, and consuming responsibly.
Proper waste sorting is essential during your stay. By placing each item in the correct bin, you directly contribute to its proper subsequent handling. We also invite you to join this initiative by practicing responsible consumption, taking only the food you will truly enjoy to avoid waste. Each of these decisions is part of a broader system of shared responsibility.
Caring for the destination depends on more than just our behind-the-scenes operations; it also depends on how each of us chooses to inhabit, enjoy, and respect the place. Every stay can help strengthen a model of responsible tourism that seeks to protect the destination we all enjoy.
Small actions, repeated by thousands of visitors throughout the year, create a meaningful collective impact.
Your vacation helps support a resort committed to protecting the destination you came to enjoy. In many ways, this certification belongs to you as well.

Building a More Sustainable Tomorrow

Receiving our third consecutive EarthCheck Silver Certification isn't the finish line. It's motivation to keep improving.
Every year challenges us to find new ways to reduce our environmental footprint, adopt better practices, and create unforgettable vacations more responsibly than ever before.
Because sustainability is not a one-time achievement. It is a conviction that grows, a decision we make every day, and a commitment that strengthens with every action. And we're proud to continue that journey, with our employees, our partners, and every guest who becomes part of the El Cid Resorts family.

Thank You for Helping Us Make a Difference

To our incredible team, whose dedication makes achievements like this possible…
To our partners who share our commitment…
And to every guest who chooses El Cid Resorts and supports responsible tourism…
Thank you.
Together, we're proving that unforgettable vacations and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.
Here's to another year of protecting the places we love and to many more milestones ahead.

El Cid Resorts | Easter & Holy Week in Mazatlán

Planning a tropical getaway to the Pearl of the Pacific can be as thrilling as it is overwhelming, especially when trying to choose the perfect resort. If you have narrowed your choices down to the renowned El Cid complex in Mazatlán, you are likely facing a common traveler's dilemma: should you stay at El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel or El Cid El Moro Beach Hotel?
To make the right choice, diving into El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel in Mazatlán México reviews is a great starting point. While both properties share amenities and sit side-by-side on a beautiful stretch of sand, they cater to slightly different vacation styles. Let’s break down what real travelers are saying, how the two properties compare, and everything you need to know to plan a flawless Mexican getaway.

The Overall Vibe: Activity Hub vs. Elevated Tranquility

When reading through general El Cid reviews, the consensus is clear: the El Cid mega-resort offers something for everyone, but location matters.
El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel is undeniably the heartbeat of the complex. It is vibrant, lively, and incredibly family-friendly. The sprawling free-form pool with its cascading waterfalls is the center of daytime action. On the other hand, El Cid El Moro Beach Hotel—easily recognizable by its towering 27-story structure—tends to attract those seeking a slightly quieter, more upscale atmosphere with sweeping panoramic views.
If you are comparing El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel vs El Cid Marina Beach Hotel (a third property located further north), you'll find that the Marina property is much more secluded and laid-back. Castilla and El Moro, however, are right in the thick of the Golden Zone action.

Why Choose El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel?

According to numerous El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel reviews, this side of the resort is perfect if you love an energetic atmosphere. If you want pool games, swim-up bars filled with socializing guests, and immediate access to daytime entertainment, Castilla is your best bet.

Room Accommodations and Upgrades

Both resorts offer comfortable, well-appointed rooms, but their layouts cater to different needs. El Moro features suite-style rooms with kitchenettes, which are great for longer stays. However, El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel shines when it comes to accommodating larger groups and families.

Suites and Amenities

If you are traveling with children, you will want to look into the best family suites at el cid castilla mazatlan. These connecting rooms and spacious suites provide plenty of room to spread out. Guests frequently highlight the El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel ocean view room amenities, which include private balconies perfect for morning coffee, flat-screen TVs, fully stocked mini-fridges, and incredibly comfortable signature bedding.

The Elite Club Experience

For travelers looking to add a touch of luxury to their stay, you might be wondering how to upgrade to elite club at El Cid. You can often request this upgrade at the front desk upon arrival or by emailing the resort prior to your trip. Upgrading grants you access to VIP check-in, exclusive lounge areas with premium liquors, guaranteed ocean views, and dedicated seating areas by the pool and beach.

Dining, Drinks, and Poolside Service

Food is a massive part of any resort experience. Fortunately, el cid castilla beach hotel all inclusive resort reviews consistently praise the variety of food available across the complex.

All-Inclusive Dining

Because the properties are linked, guests have access to an impressive array of restaurants. The El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel in mazatlan all inclusive dining options include:

La Alhambra: A fantastic beachfront buffet offering international and Mexican favorites.

El Alcazar: An elegant, romantic setting perfect for an upscale dinner.

La Cascada: Located next door at El Cid El Moro Beach Hotel, offering delicious Mexican cuisine with a sophisticated flair.

Whether you are craving authentic fish tacos or a hearty steak, the culinary teams at both Castilla and El Moro deliver.

Poolside Vibes

While El Cid El Moro Beach Hotel has a slightly quieter pool, Castilla boasts a massive, bustling pool area. A frequent highlight in El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel reviews is the El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel Mazatlan poolside service quality. The waitstaff are known for being incredibly attentive, ensuring your margarita or ice-cold Pacifico is never empty while you lounge under the sun.

Family Fun and Nightlife

One of the main reasons families gravitate toward Castilla over El Moro is the dedicated focus on keeping all age groups entertained.

Keeping the Kids Happy

Parents consistently rave in El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel Mazatlán reviews about the El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel kids club activities. The "El Cid Kids Club" is a lifesaver for parents needing a break. The staff organizes sandcastle building, pool games, arts and crafts, and even supervised movie nights.

Evening Entertainment

Once the sun goes down, the resort transitions into a vibrant hub of evening fun. The entertainment and nightlife at El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel includes spectacular live shows, ranging from traditional Mexican fiestas and folklore dances to interactive comedy nights. If you want to keep the party going, the lobby bar is a great spot to mingle, or you can easily walk over to El Moro’s sophisticated lounges for a nightcap.

Beach, Location, and Exploring Mazatlán

Mazatlán is a city rich in culture, and staying at El Cid places you in a prime position to explore it.

Hitting the Sand

A very common question for first-timers is: is El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel safe for swimming? Generally, yes. The beach directly in front of the resort is beautiful, with soft sand and rolling waves. However, the Pacific Ocean can have strong undertows. Always pay attention to the colored beach flags and the on-duty lifeguards. Green or yellow flags mean you are good to go, while red means it's best to stick to that magnificent pool.

Exploring the Golden Zone

If you want to step off the resort, you are in luck. It is an incredibly easy walking distance from to zona dorada shops. Just outside the resort lobby, you will find pharmacies, authentic silver jewelry boutiques, local restaurants, and lively bars.

The Famous Malecon

You cannot visit Mazatlán without seeing its famous boardwalk. Here are a few tips for visiting mazatlan malecon from el cid:

Take a Pulmonia: These open-air, golf-cart-like taxis are unique to Mazatlán. Hail one outside the Castilla lobby and enjoy the breezy ride down the coast.

Go at Sunset: Mazatlán is famous for its breathtaking sunsets. Time your Malecon visit for late afternoon.

Visit Plaza Machado: Have your driver drop you off at the historic center for incredible architecture and a romantic dinner.

Practical Tips for Your Mazatlán Vacation

To ensure your trip goes off without a hitch, it helps to know the logistical details that frequent guests mention in El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel Mazatlán reviews.

Transportation and Connectivity

Getting to the resort from the airport is straightforward. While prices fluctuate, the El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel Mazatlán airport shuttle cost typically runs between $20 to $30 USD per person for a shared van, and it takes about 35-40 minutes. It is highly recommended to arrange this through the hotel prior to your arrival to avoid the aggressive timeshare pitches inside the airport terminal.
For those mixing business with pleasure, you might be curious about the El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel Mazatlán wifi reliability for remote work. However, if you need to take video calls or download large files, it is highly recommended to purchase the premium Wi-Fi package or upgrade to the Elite Club, which includes high-speed access.

Packing Essentials

Wondering what to pack for a Mazatlán beach resort vacation? Keep it tropical and practical:

Sun Protection: Reef-safe sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and polarized sunglasses.

Footwear: Comfortable walking shoes for the Golden Zone, and water shoes if you plan to explore rocky beach areas.

Evening Wear: While the daytime dress code is ultra-casual, restaurants like El Alcazar require "resort casual" attire (collared shirts for men, no beachwear).

Light Jacket: If you are traveling between December and March, the evenings can occasionally bring a cool ocean breeze.

Planning Adventures

Finally, Mazatlán is a destination meant to be explored. Booking excursions through el cid castilla concierge is a seamless process. The knowledgeable staff located in the lobby can easily arrange deep-sea sport fishing trips, ATV tours in the surrounding hills, or catamaran cruises to the nearby Deer Island (Isla de Venados) for premier snorkeling.

The Final Verdict

Ultimately, choosing between El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel and El Cid El Moro Beach Hotel comes down to your personal vacation style. If you prioritize sweeping ocean views from towering heights and a slightly more subdued environment, El Moro is a fantastic choice.

For this, El Cid Resorts in Mazatlán has decided to take the next step with the restaurants and bars of each of its resorts and elevate gastronomy through a collaboration with the renowned Mexican chef, Daniel Ovadía.

Originally from Mexico City, Chef Daniel Ovadía has been recognized for years as one of the great young talents in Mexican cuisine.
Today, as a renowned restaurateur, Ovadía is a clear reference in culinary research among chefs. This was reflected in the famous Paxia Restaurant, where each time it presented a new menu it formed a multidisciplinary research team made up of academics, traditional cooks, producers, and people beyond the culinary world, such as local artisans, painters, and even to the patriarchs of the traditions that he framed in these tasting menus.

"We have to understand that Mexican cuisine is the product of a world gastronomic miscegenation, it is time to experiment and dare to innovate with flavors. Tradition is built everyday." - Daniel Ovadia.

The guest chef of Masterchef México and owner of the restaurant group, Grupo Bull & Tank, is developing interesting palettes of culinary concepts, from an extraordinary restaurant with Israeli flavors (a product of his family’s heritage), and particularly inspired by the city of Jerusalem — Merkav – passing through a restaurant in which the flavors of Asia and México intertwine like nowhere else – Nudo Negro. Adding to the list is Peltre, a chain of lunch restaurants well recognized in México City for their national flavors. Grupo Bull & Tank and Daniel Ovadía to this day have more than 14 restaurants with interesting projects for the future.

"We know that there are new and strong comepetitor in Mazatlán, there is a new wave of tourism and we mus be ready to meet the demand."- Carlos Berdegué Sacristán. El Cid Resorts CEO

El Cid Resorts decided to seek Chef Daniel Ovadía as the mentor for this relaunch of all of the restaurants and bars of the El Cid Resorts chain in Mazatlán, something that had never been done before in the 45-year history of the hotel chain.
The collaboration consists of staff training, menu design, application of new techniques, use of spaces, and reduction of waste in the different kitchens and bars. Chef Daniel Ovadía has joined up with the different chefs and cooks of El Cid Resorts in continuous training to be able to apply the improvements in a short time. It is a very important challenge for the El Cid Resorts group but it is something necessary especially with the constant competition that arises in the Mexican port.

The new dishes and menus have already been applied successfully in the different restaurants such as Ban Horu Sushi, and Prime Grill Steak House in the Country Club House, La Concha Restaurant in El Cid El Moro Beach Hotel, as well as La Marina Restaurant at El Cid Marina Beach Hotel, among others.
Very soon, the new culinary experience at El Cid Resorts will be giving something to talk about in Mazatlán and throughout México thanks to such an important collaboration.

El Cid Resorts and Chef Daniel Ovadía, a collaboration for history

Every improvement implies continuous effort. To achieve good grades you have to study hard, to win a championship you have to train very hard and to be the best you have to be number one.

At El Cid Resorts we always seek to level up our cuisine by collaborating with distinguished Chefs to offer a top quality gastronomic experience to our guests.

The reduction of emissions generated by tourist services is a commitment that El Cid Resorts assumes to face as a conviction for the future of the planet.

The innovation, the application of good environmental practices and, overall, continual improvement of its environmental performance, are the foundation to accomplish Net Zero’s goal for 2050: We are ready.

At the Sustainable and Social Tourism Summit, El Cid Resorts along with other resorts and companies in the mexican Caribbean, ratified their adherence to the Glasgow Agreement. In the presence of the World’s Tourism Organization and members of the sector, the companies that signed the Gaslow Agreement are joining the international actions to fight the climate crisis.
As the Glasgow Agreement emerges as an international response to involve the Tourism Industry as a united sector worldwide to reduce the environmental impacts caused by tourism, at El Cid Resorts we are honored to support sustainability actions and to be part of this commitment.
At El Cid Resorts, we are very proud to pronounce in favor of sustainability and join this commitment, since the Glasgow Agreement emerges as an international response to involve the Tourism Industry as a united sector in all the world to reduce the environmental impacts derived from it. The signatory companies commit to implement good practices, innovate technologically and even improve their operations in order to halve the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that the sector produces, by 2030 and reach NET ZERO before 2050.
Where does this initiative come from?
In 2015, the UN gathered at the Framework Convention on Climatic Change, where the Paris Agreement was signed. Back then, the scientific community explained that in order to ensure the world’ biodiversity preservation, meaning life as we know it, it is urgent to stop the planet’s temperature from rising above 1.5°C, based on the planet’s temperature in the pre-industrial era (19th century). This could mitigate the impacts on biodiversity and ecosystems, allowing humanity to conserve nature’s services while keeping our resources for livelihoods, food, water supply and economy moving.
The scientists estimate that in order to reach this goal, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions must decrease by 45% by 2030, and reach Net Zero by 2050.
The Glasgow Agreement was formed last year during the COP 26 summoned by the UN. This international agreement suggests that all members of the tourism sector commit to aligning the climate impact of the Tourism Industry with scientific recommendations and international agreements.
What is the commitment?

All the participating businesses of the Glasgow Agreement are committed to present annually their good practices and sustainable action plans, as well as to implementing and keeping them updated.

To align these plans with the five pillars of the Declaration: To measure greenhouse gas emissions, to reduce carbon dioxide production, regenerate, collaborate and, if possible, to invest in new projects focused on lowering CO2 emissions, allowing us to accelerate and coordinate the climate action in the tourism sector.

Report the progress.

To work as a team by sharing the good practices and solutions, and spreading out information to encourage more businesses to join to this worldwide initiative.

Throughout the last 50 years and going back to the beginnings of the company, El Cid Resorts has always been a leader in pioneering and breaking through innovative sustainable implementations like; Solar panel usage, detection, and conservation of new species of flora and fauna within property lands and the process of re-growing and re-planting mangroves.
At El Cid Resorts, we are ready to take on this commitment to our planet! To overcome this challenge we face as a Planet, we have the appropriate infrastructure, the necessary technical equipment, the continuous improvement in our operation, but most of all, we are sure that we can face this challenge together as one force.
Making a difference is our promise to the planet.

At El Cid Resorts, a variety of spaces in Mazatlán make it possible to create events with different styles, sizes, and atmospheres—from professional indoor settings to experiences surrounded by the beauty of Mexico’s Pacific coast.
Here are some of the possibilities to consider when planning your next event in Mazatlán.

1. Meeting Rooms for Productive Gatherings

For board meetings, presentations, workshops, training sessions, and smaller corporate gatherings, a dedicated meeting room provides the privacy and professional atmosphere your group needs.
The key is choosing a space that can adapt to the purpose of your event. Different seating arrangements and configurations can help transform the same venue from a presentation setting into a collaborative meeting or networking experience.

2. Convention Spaces for Larger Events

Planning a conference, convention, or large corporate gathering requires more than additional space. The venue should allow attendees to move comfortably between presentations, networking moments, meals, and other activities throughout the event.
El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel features a convention center in Mazatlán, making it possible to combine business events with the amenities and experiences of a beachfront resort.
This type of setting can be ideal for conferences, annual meetings, incentive groups, presentations, and other events that bring larger groups together.

3. Beachfront Settings for Events with a View

Sometimes, the setting becomes part of the event itself.
Mazatlán’s Pacific coastline creates a memorable backdrop for welcome receptions, cocktail events, private dinners, networking gatherings, and celebrations.
A beachfront setting can also provide a refreshing contrast after a day of meetings, giving attendees the opportunity to connect in a more relaxed atmosphere while experiencing one of Mazatlán’s greatest attractions: the ocean.

4. Spaces for Private Dinners and Celebrations

Not every event needs a traditional meeting room.
Private dinners, recognition events, closing celebrations, cocktail receptions, and social gatherings can become an important part of the overall group experience.
Pairing the right setting with food, drinks, and personalized details can turn a simple dinner into one of the most memorable moments of the trip.

5. Turn Your Event into a Mazatlán Experience

One of the advantages of hosting an event at a resort destination is everything that can happen beyond the meeting room.
A corporate gathering can become an incentive experience. A conference can end with dinner by the ocean. A group can spend the morning in meetings and the afternoon enjoying everything Mazatlán has to offer.
With El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel, El Cid El Moro Beach Hotel, El Cid Granada Hotel, and El Cid Marina Beach Hotel, groups can enjoy a variety of settings, amenities, and experiences throughout their stay in Mazatlán.
From beachfront moments and resort amenities to golf, dining, and experiences around the destination, there are many ways to complement an event and turn a business trip or group gathering into a memorable Mazatlán experience.

Find the Right Venue for Your Event in Mazatlán

The perfect event is about more than finding a room. It’s about choosing a destination and setting that bring people together.
With meeting spaces, convention facilities, beachfront surroundings, dining experiences, and the warmth of Mexican hospitality, El Cid Resorts offers a variety of possibilities for creating memorable events in Mazatlán.
Whether you’re organizing a corporate meeting, conference, group gathering, private dinner, or special celebration, your next event can become an experience your guests will remember long after they return home.
